Dave Zook is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor candidate (License Number: 20699). He is supervised under Dr. DeAnna Crosby (License Number: 127645). He utilizes curiosity and openness to help clients better understand their issues, which can provide a foundation for working toward change. He is a recent graduate from Bastyr University with a master’s degree in counseling psychology, emphasizing collaborative whole-person care. Before starting with ORCA Mental Health, Dave gained clinical experience by working as a staff member for a suicide and crisis line, and most recently as therapist trainee at a psychiatric inpatient hospital in San Diego. This work has helped inform a model of mental health that is both complex and with shared similarities along the human experience.
Dave entered the world of clinical psychology in his late 30s, following years of work in the realm of magazine and newspaper writing, where he covered issues related to mountain town life. Having grown up in a small beautiful coastal town in Northern California, the magic and power of the outdoors have been ingrained in him. and it continues to provide inspiration and joy. He also spent years chasing fresh snow and competing in freeride snowboard events around the American West while living in Oregon, Utah, and Lake Tahoe.
He is thrilled to delve further into the multifaceted aspects of providing excellent treatment for men’s mental health and recovery. Now among a larger populace, he finds the coastline of San Diego a top-tier respite from hustle of the city, and finds solace in its waves. He also makes time for trail running, drumming, personal writing projects, connecting with humans, and continuing his education for psychology and mental health–whether via books, a podcast, or a walk around the block.
